Burn More Calories Throughout Your Workday
Working in an office typically means a desk-bound, sedentary workday, day in and day out. This lack of physical activity is not only unhealthy, but can serve as a real obstacle to those trying to shed extra pounds. There are, however, small things that can be done to help burn some extra calories throughout an average workday! So, whether there’s simply not enough time for you to workout outside of work or you’re just trying to make the most out of your eight hours at the office, follow the tips below and get burnin’!
Drink Coffee
Coffee is already the way most people begin their day, but its benefits go beyond pulling you out of your zombie-like morning state. Turns out, the caffeine in coffee doesn’t just wake you up, it wakes up your metabolism, too! Not a coffee person? You can get the added burn by drinking tea instead.
Take a Lunchtime Walk
Instead of scrolling through Facebook during your lunch break, lace up some walking shoes and take a short power walk. It helps with circulation, gets you out of the chair, and you can burn around 100 calories just by walking at a fast pace for 15 minutes. Not to mention, it will give you a boost of energy to power through the rest of the workday.
Burn While You Balance
Swap your office chair for a stability ball and burn as much as 260 extra calories throughout the day. Maintaining your balance also helps improve your core strength, so you can work on those abs while working on that spreadsheet.
Take the Stairs
The one simple switch from the elevator to the stairwell each day can have a real impact on your cardiovascular health, and statistics show you can burn about 10 calories just by going up one floor (two flights of stairs). That’s easy calorie burnin’!
Use a Different Restroom
If you work in a large building, use a restroom on a different floor. The added walking will get you moving and raise your heart rate a bit, and the stairs, as mentioned above, will make for extra calories burned!
Workout While Working
Invest in a workout machine that you can use while on your computer, such as an under-desk stepper, bike, or elliptical. It’s a surefire way to melt away calories without interfering with your work schedule.
Ditch the Big Water Bottle
Drinking a lot of water is absolutely necessary in any weight loss endeavor and for overall wellness. Ditching the big bottle for a smaller cup or water bottle, however, will force you to frequent the water cooler more often, resulting in added movement throughout the day.
Chew Gum
On average, simply chewing gum will burn an extra 11 calories per hour! And beyond that, those who chew gum are less likely to crave snacks, and more likely to consume less calories throughout the day. So grab a pack of calorie-free gum and chomp your day away!
